I first met Matt and Molly on a cold night at a local Outer Sunset dive bar called The Riptide. While I usually prefer having “client blind dates” at coffee shops, the bar was just around the corner from Matt and Molly’s home and I certainly wasn’t planning on drinking caffeine after work anyhow.
As we sat near the fire with our beers and wine in one hand, petting Matt and Molly’s cute pup with the other, I quickly noticed that our blind date was different than others. There was less talk about wedding, and more talk about life. Less talk about photography skills, and more talk about our dogs. Getting to know each other just came easy and it felt as though we were already friends.
As we finished our drinks, Matt and Molly insisted they show me their home, as it was where they wanted to do their engagement session. Clearly, our blind date was going very well! I was already being invited back home! 🙂
After a quick tour of their home, they walked me to the car and asked what the next steps would be to securing me as their wedding photographer. When I said, “if you’re interested in having me…”, Molly was quick to stop me and say, “clearly, we want you!” And I couldn’t be happier because they not only wanted me because they liked my work, they wanted me because we just meshed so well. And this connection is what I consider so important in being a wedding photographer.
A couple months after our blind date, I met up with Matt and Molly again for their home engagement session, which happened to fall on Molly’s birthday! We took some photos amongst their beautiful backyard and then walked one block to Ocean Beach. I had a wonderful time with them and can hardly wait for their September wedding in Bolinas!
Matt and Molly, thank you for being such troopers by letting your engagement photography nerves melt away quickly, only to be yourselves in front of my camera. I’m so thankful that you chose me to celebrate this time in your lives with you!
