It’s hard to put into words what this wedding and this couple means to me. By the end of Kate and Karyne’s San Francisco engagement session that ended with sushi and drinks (have you heard about my love affair with sushi?), we knew that working together would only be the start of a cherished friendship (yes, they love sushi, too). And by the time I arrived in Mendocino to photograph their beautiful wedding at The Albion Schoolhouse (which was recently sold and being used as a private property), I already felt like part of their friend family, which made photographing them a dream. One piece of advice I give any couple looking for a wedding photographer is to find someone that you mesh well with. When you find that person, it’s easy to establish trust, making you feel at ease in front of the camera. This also allows the photographer to make images that truly represent who you are.
In addition to having established a mutual trust between us, I was excited to photograph Kate and Karyne’s wedding because every piece of their day was crafted with intention. Having both been married before, Kate and Karyne planned to have a much more intimate wedding allowing them to go all out on details to make it perfectly “them”. Everything from the location and place settings to the personalized guest gifts (hand-crafted beer) and a delicious meal made by close friends was carefully thought of. It was certainly one of my favorite weddings to document.
To learn more about Kate and Karyne’s wedding day, their budget, and amazing vendors (including custom lettering by Water & Well and beautiful flowers by La Martiné Floral Design), you can check out this post on “A Practical Wedding”.
Kate and Karyne, I’ll be forever thankful to Kate’s Instagram skills for bringing us together, and I’m so happy that you’re a part of our friend-family. Love you both to bits!
